I Becchi Cigars: The Story Behind the Habano Toro

October 16, 2026 · 4 min read

From white-label brand to its own name: how I Becchi Cigars began, who rolls its cigars and what a 54 × 6 Toro means.

Behind every box of cigars there is a story. This is the story of I Becchi Cigars, the Dominican brand whose Habano Toro we currently offer at Cava Real Cigars, told from what we have experienced, seen and researched alongside the brand.

How I Becchi began

According to the brand, I Becchi has been on the Dominican market for two years. It began quietly as a white-label brand (cigars made for other brands), and its first cigars traveled to the islands, especially the Bahamas.

What started as a private dream grew until it found its own identity and opened to the public, with one clear idea: to share a passion for handcrafted Dominican tobacco and the elegance of turning every moment into an unforgettable experience.

How I Becchi began

Who makes the cigars

I Becchi cigars are hand-rolled by Dominican artisans. The factory team is made up of 8 pairs: 16 rollers who work in groups of two. It is led by its master blender, Bienvenido Santana, who has 20 years of experience in the tobacco industry.

Where the tobacco comes from

The brand is very clear here, and we like that: I Becchi specializes in transforming the raw material, not in growing tobacco. It buys leaves that are already cured.

  • Filler and binder: Dominican, from the Santiago and Moca areas.
  • Wrapper: imported.
  • Aging of the leaves: they go through a process of 4 to 7 years. As a standard, the brand requires a minimum of 4 years.
  • Rest of the finished cigar: 45 to 90 days before it ships, depending on the variety.

What 54 × 6 means

If you are just starting out, the numbers on a box can look like a code. They are not. Every cigar has a vitola: the name for its shape and size. The size is written with two numbers. The first, 54, is the ring gauge: the thickness, measured in sixty-fourths of an inch, about 21 mm across. The second, 6, is the length in inches, about 15 cm.

A Toro is one of the classic vitolas: a long cigar with a good thickness, made for an unhurried smoke.

How to enjoy it

  • Set the time aside. It takes about 55 minutes: pick an unhurried moment.
  • Cut and light with patience. Cut the cap with a cutter and rotate the foot over the flame until it lights evenly.
  • Smoke slowly and do not inhale. Let the smoke settle in your mouth. If it goes out, simply relight it.
  • Pair it with something that matches. With notes of wood, coffee and spice, it works well with a coffee or an aged rum. It is a suggestion, not a rule.

Where the brand has been

Among the events and fairs I Becchi has taken part in are the Feria Ganadera 2026 and the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE 2026). San Antonio, Saturday Cigars Testing and Expro/Expo Empresarial 2026.

What comes next

The brand confirms that it currently has one vitola and two blends ready to sell. For now we offer the Habano Toro; when the next one joins, we will tell you here.
